What’s it about?
“when you come from the end of the track, you have to go a long way”
Is that why Kiwis aim so high?
Is it because from our place at the bottom of the world, we have something that says climb to the top?
The Smallest Thing in the world
The atom, Ernest Rutherford looked at it and said “I’ll conquer that.”
The Tallest Thing in the World
Mt Everest, Edmund Hillary said “I’ll conquer that.”
The Sky
Richard Pearse looked up and didn’t see the limit. His mechanically powered plane took flight a year before the Wright brothers. And he did it without a team of engineers to help him. He did it himself.
The Sea
Peter Blake ruled it.
The Land
John Britten owned it, with the fastest motorbike in the world - built from scratch in his backyard shed. The massive factories of Japan could not compete with what it is that drove him.
The Oscars
Peter Jackson said “I’ll have some of those.”
The Vote
Kate Sheppard said “I’ll have some of those too.”
Whatever it is, it’s not always made in New Zealand, but it is Made from New Zealand.
A spirit, a grit, a substance. Something made from sterner stuff. It’s the Kiwi DNA.
You can see it in our athletes, in our entrepreneurs and in our businesses.
In the people who say I’ve got an idea, I’ve got a dream, and I’m going to run with it and see how far it takes me.
Whatever it is, that thing that makes Kiwis want to fly, we nurture it, support it and salute it.
