I am a stay at home mum to three little girls under 4 and also own/operate Playtime Magic. I have a passion for business, designing toys and as a hobby i create open source websites and shopping cart themes.
How my business came to be....
I was 5 months pregnant with my second daughter Caitlin in 2007 when i noticed the lack of quality wooden educational toys in New Zealand, My then 2 1/2 year old daughter needed a positive behavioural development tool to help with the terrible twos and the horrible threes to come not to mention toilet training so i decided to do some sketches of product designs i showed family and friends getting a good response, at the same time i was a avid forum poster so spoke to friends with children around the same age this gave me some insight into what parents are looking for in relation to tools to help with positive discipline, encouragement and achievement, what issues people are dealing with as alot of 2-4 year old's can go through alot of different things so then i designed my reward ribbons based on specific issues children and parents can face to give children a positive sense of achievement for gaining a ribbon to display with pride in turn helping them over development obstacles. After looking around for NZ made affordable wooden toys for specific learning milestones i discovered there is a very limited option here as the majority of educational toys are plastic, imported from China and Taiwan where these are mass produced costing business less but creating more risks regarding the safety of our children so i ended up doing a thorough research investigation into early childhood learning to gain better insight to be able to help kiwi kids further. So in turn i designed the educational toy range i now have a design book full of designs for products including daycare equipment.
So from May 2008 we had been making toys and designs selling locally then in September 2008 when the economic down turn was the hot topic I created the Playtime Magic website and the first launch of products. Bit by bit every week over the coming months new products and ranges will be added to our website at the same being made available to our wholesale buyers.
We love what we do and have a strong passion for it!!
