Stratford District Council

Stratford is located in the heart of Taranaki and is the gateway to Mount Taranaki. If you are just visiting or planning on moving to the region then Stratford is not to be missed, with a wide range of opportunities for people from all walks of life.

The Stratford District represents about one quarter of the Taranaki Region with a quarter of the District comprising the Egmont Ring Plain which is predominantly dairying and the balance being rolling to hill country supporting dry stock farming and bush (57,300 dairy; 42,000 beef cattle; 281,300 sheep).

The predominantly rural District is well and ably supported by its service town of Stratford which has a population of 5,225 as well as numerous community and industrial enterprises.
