Staple displays its own furniture and lighting range, complemented by the best of other New Zealand design. Our furniture and objects are, without exception, both designed and made in New Zealand. Staple also offers residential design consultancy services.
Originating in Gisborne, Staple Furniture + Design has recently expanded into NZ’s creative capital. Staple now operates out of an old warehouse in Wellington central city.

What makes us Made From New Zealand?
A life-long love of furniture and design posed a real challenge for Staple founder Sally Shanks; she lived in Gisborne and couldn’t find anything she liked in the shops. Others certainly liked her style; House & Garden and other design magazines featured several of the houses she’d renovated. So Sally decided to make the most of the gap in the market by opening her own shop, Staple, nearly five years ago. Then in 2008 Staple expanded out of Gisborne - opening in an old warehouse in central Wellington; a showcase of Sally’s style, with all the furniture designed and made in New Zealand. She supports young designers, and wants Staple to become a launching pad for designers straight out of art school – as well as the best of local contemporary designers. Sally sources stock from all over New Zealand; easier now she has an established reputation, with designers tracking her down – partly because they like her ‘New Zealand only’ philosophy. And what she can't find she designs herself - from beanbags to daybeds to lightshades.
