Driver and crew are all Kiwis. Grant Downing, founder of Paralax Race Cars, has been involved in the US drag racing scene since 1992. As well as building nitro funny cars from the ground up he has worked as a crew-member for several drag racing notables, including Mert Littlefield, Gary Densham and Del Worsham, who is now the tuner of the car. Ashley McKean is the crew chief, who has over ten years experience working with Randy Anderson, Jim Dunn Racing, and David Baca Motorsports.
Silver Fern Racing had it’s beginnings in 2001, when owner/driver Grant Downing made his first licensing pass in his 1999 Firebird in Phoenix, Arizona. Grant also campaigned the Venom Toyota Tundra in 2001 and 2002, and his accomplishments included being the second in the Sport Compact Series into the Summit 200mph Club, the first Import to run 6 seconds, and last but not least, was the 2002 NHRA Sport Compact Pro Champion.
Grant closed Paralax in 2002 to concentrate on his professional Nitro Funny Car driving career, which began with the 2003 US Nationals in Indianapolis. He continues to work full time for Del Worsham Racing as the chassis builder, also doing tin-work and body-mounts for the multi-car team.
Silver Fern Racing has made competitive racing appearances at the US Nationals in Indianapolis, the World Finals and Winternationals in Pomona, and also at IHRA and match races in Alaska, Canada and Salt Lake City.
Sponsorship is currently available for single and multiple-race pportunities at a variety of levels. Grant may be contacted at (714) 865-3703 (California, USA)
