oma.kase
The name oma.kase comes from the Japanese phrase "it's up to you". We believe: It's up to you…to care for your environment. It's up to you…to be an individual. It's up to you…to decide.Emerge "Upcycling"- upcycling is the practice of taking something that is disposable and transforming it into something of greater use and value. Upcycling is different to recycling. Recycling is actually an example of "downcycling" ,whereby unrecoverable and unusable by-products are created in the recycling process. We feel that individuality is lacking in today’s mass market environment. So we wanted to create products that help people express themselves and who they are by making one-off pieces. Behind oma.kase are the spritely pair of Eva and Jess. We established oma.kase through a shared love of fashion, personal style and a passion for the social and environmental values we hold. What motivated us to form oma.kase and what we see as our unique "difference" is our focus on sustainable design and individuality. Even down to our packaging where we are upcycling office stationary.

All materials for our products are sourced from NZ, we do not import anything and as much as possible we try to use old NZ clothing brands found in opshops to upcycle. All employees are born, bred and educated in NZ and believe in NZ business enterprise both from a creation and consumer perspective. We have made connections with some local Wellington businesses who have helped us with additions to our clothing and we also utilise NZ websites such as trademe, felt and nothrowaway.
