InfoNews started with two Poly-tech students wanting to remove the gate keeper mentality from the news industry. After seeing how editors and newsrooms prioritize news Fraser Mills and Peter Hodge wanted to take that power and give it to the readers.
Seeing how the internet was already assisting the changes at rapid rate, they wanted to help facilitate more changes which would give end users the ability to choose their own news of interest.
InfoNews.co.nz was born over a beer in a back yard in Invercargill and with a handshake the last 2 years have since flown by.
InfoNews is still growing and now has around 100,000 unique users a month. The unique opportunity for users to add their own news, events, images and comments has been welcomed by the hundreds of contributors throughout New Zealand and the world.
The InfoNews.co.nz founders believe that everyone, no matter what circumstances or opinion, have the same right to express their views as the next person. This is reflected on the site by view counters on stories and access for anyone to comment on any aspect of the sites content.
InfoNews is independent competitor co-operative, meaning InfoNews will work with any or all competitors owned and operated in New Zealand to improve the way and methods news delivered.
InfoNews has nearly finished all of it's development and will have a full launch early in 2008.
