Earthlings clothes are here!!
Earthlings - is our family business which means that I am able to be a WAHM - something that I have worked toward for a long time.
Our daughter is the inspiration behind Earthlings. After she was born, we discovered the importance of protecting our little baby from the raft of chemicals we are bombarded with on a daily basis.
The more research we did, the more worried we became. We asked the question - how can we clothe our vulnerable child in clothing that uses over 3 ounces of pesticides to produce, not to mention the chemicals to finish the product? But what alternatives to conventional cotton were available? The very limited range of organic cotton products and the inflated costs made wearing only organic difficult if not impossible.
Over the following 3 years our desire to make available affordable high quality organic baby and toddler clothing has become a reality and we have created a range of organic baby clothes that are thoughtfully designed and of uncompromised quality.
Earthlings is an ethically conscious brand and we aim to produce funky and environmentally responsible baby clothing. We are committed to trading fairly with all our suppliers throughout the supply chain.
We are one of the very few New Zealand businesses with our OWN BRAND of organic baby and toddler clothing.
We are New Zealands ONLY licensees of fairtrade cotton baby and toddler clothing. That is the only way that you can be sure that our products are sourced through a fairly traded supply chain.
Protecting our NZ babies from the masses of chemicals we are exposed to in every day life is a big part of what inspired this business and we have worked hard to source the best designs and fabrics to create a truly organic range of clothing for New Zealand parents.
This theme is continued throughout our range with our endangered bird prints - designed in-house.
We donate $1 from every printed item sold to the New Zealand forest and bird society - we aim to protect our NZ babies and our NZ wildlife too!
At present we have the Kakapo and the Chatham island Oyster catcher as two of our endangered bird prints and we also have some better known birds - the fantail, pukeko and the morepork.
Part of our mission has been to do everything ourselves - in true kiwi style!
We designed and build our website - including logos, look and feel and the site itself was created by my partner.
We have had our site up and running since June this year but without having launched the actual clothing range we felt a coming soon page was such a waste of time.
So we decided to offer our NZ Mums and Dads a place to share the joys and challenges of parenthood and added a parenting discussion board to our website.
This has been a real success and we have had a great response from parents throught NZ.
Not to be beaten in the social networking game we thought the time was right to build our fantastic social network for New Zealand parents ParentBook - where parents come to play!
ParentBook has everything that facebook (etc..) offers and a bit more - with live video/audio and text chat , personal profiles - the ability to upload music, video and photos - its the best social network for parents in New Zealand!
ParentBook has been another great means of supporting the New Zealand community by offering Mums in business a great place to promote their business's to a targeted and interested audience!
Currently we have both our discussion forum running as well as parentBook and we have monthly competitions with some great giveaways.
We are also one of the few businesses that manufacture clothing using cotton and processes that are certified by both the Global Organic Textile Standards (GOTS) and Fair trade.
We are working with our manufacturing partners in India to provide parents with beautifully made clothing that won't harm their baby.
We are excited to bring New Zealand parents a new New Zealand owned brand of funky organic baby clothing and with the economic situation we also want to protect people pockets by keeping our prices reasonable!
So we think Earthlings truly has New Zealand at heart by:
A: Protecting NZ Babies (Alls garments made using GOTS certified organic and fair trade cotton)
B: Protecting NZ endangered Birds ($1 from every bird print goes to NZ forest and bird)
C: Supporting NZ parents (offering parentBook our NZ parents social network)
D: Protecting NZ Wallets (keeping prices down)
We hope you love Earthlings:)
