Donna Steel Contemporary Artist

I am a Contemporary artist based in Christchurch, with a fascination for creating things. I love to paint and also love to sculpt, so have managed to combine these two passions with my Oil and mixed media artworks.

“A Total Texture Junkie” is a good way to describe me. I enjoy incorporating many different types of texture and resin in my artworks. More recently I have moved toward Oils, and am finding this medium a total contrast from working with acrylics, although the two are very different mediums I really enjoy the variety that I get from working with each of them.
My artwork can take up to several weeks to complete depending on the different processes and mediums that I use.
A lot of my inspiration comes from just everyday moments of life, like a weekend away, a memory I may have, or driving down the road and seeing or hearing something. I have a real passion for the outdoors – nature in all its beauty, be it mountains, rivers, flowers, trees or butterflies.

Photography is another passion of mine, I tend to use the images I take as inspiration to create my artworks.

Each Artwork is totally original and unique to me… ” I try and keep my artwork as original and unique as I can, and find the best way to do this is to keep each artwork different and not to recreate it”.

My work is sold internationally, exhibited in select NZ Galleries and also has been used in an advertising catalogue 2007, “ The One Million Masterpiece Calender 2007″ and more recently an Artwork Selected to be Exhibited in General Exhibition at NZAG Art Awards 2008.
