Bear Cottage

Bear Cottage is located in Whakatane on the east side of the North Island, New Zealand.

I have been making bears for several years having learned many sewing skills from my toymaker mother, when I was in my teens. Four years ago my son and I started to make them from possum furs a friend gave us to try. It has taken from then to perfect the bears and the learning process was very challenging and somewhat frustration. The first ones were thrown away and we were tempted many times to return to the safety of mohair and synthetic fabrics.

But we persevered and we now can offer various bear designs as well as other accessories.

We have been making possum products now for many years.
