Aotearoa Distillers Limited

Company Founder – Ulf Führer, a German born New Zealander, is your average kiwi bloke now. Leaving Germany with his family when he was only two years old, they arrived in Wellington with no more than a suitcase full of pots and baking tins in 1974.

On returning to Germany after a 20 year absence, Ulf became partial to the traditional drink of the Fatherland, which was unfortunate because it was impossible to get in good old Aotearoa, resulting in him needing to revert to mail
ordering his favourite drink directly from Germany.

Convinced that New Zealand was ready to be properly introduced to what Europe has known and loved for centuries, Ulf set out with his kiwi attitude and a good length of number 8 wire to create his own traditional German shot, produced with the quality of its traditional home and the attitude of his adopted country.

After teaming up with his fellow directors, Aotearoa Distillers Limited and ZUMWOHL were born.

Our distiller and head of production Tony Green, has been at the forefront of high end spirt production since 1974.

In 2000 he formulated and produced New Zealand most successful Vodka, which was consistently rated in the top 3 in the world.

ZUMWOHL is distilled and bottled onsite at Aotearoa Distillers Ltd’s premises in Upper Hutt, Wellington.
