The flower of the Elder is legendary for its healing properties. They contain triterpenes, essential oil, flavonoids and phenolic acids, which give them diaphoretic (sweat promoting), anti-catarrhal and antispasmodic properties. Elderflowers are useful as a decongestant for the respiratory system, sinus and ear congestion, sooths cold and flu, reduces fever and inflammation, stimulates circulation and used to treat urinary tract disorders.
