The launch of Made From New Zealand is being funded in a unique and typically Kiwi fashion – with a Jumble Sale. We commissioned designer Michelle Dowd (she designed the official NZ fern we are building on Waitangi Day) to come up with some ideas for a range of teeshirts we could sell to raise funds to build the fern on Waitangi Day.
Then the team at Huffer heard about what we were up to, and they got into the sport, producing their own version of what Made From New Zealand is all about.
To make the made From New Zealand teeshirts even more unique, every single shirt contains a piece of the magic thread we’ve had made up. It’s woven from pure merino wool combined with the fibres from Sir Ed Hillary’s climbing sock.
Mixing up these materials is a representation of how our New Zealand-ness is literally woven through our DNA.
The Made From New Zealand teeshirts are a limited edition: only 10,517 shirts will ever be produced. How did we come up with that number? It’s the distance in km’s between Bethells Beach, where the first fern was built, and Los Angeles, where the second one will happen. So as well as being a great way for you to wear your Kiwi heart on your sleeve, every t-shirt you by gets us another click closer to the beach…
By buying a Made From New Zealand Teeshirt, you’ll have a unique souvenir of New Zealand’s worldwide Waitangi Day celebration. And you’ll always know that you were part of the team that made it happen.
