Together with a whole bunch of Kiwis living and working in Los Angeles, we’re building a huge silver fern sand sculpture on Santa Monica Beach on Feb 6 (NZT). The whole thing will be broadcast live on Maori TV. We’re doing this for a couple of reasons: to celebrate Waitangi Day (after all, it’s Waitangi Day everywhere in world on Feb 6, not just New Zealand) and to launch Made From New Zealand, a new brand we have developed to promote New Zealand ideas, entrepreneurship, people and products.
Making this project happen is a whole bunch of great New Zealand companies. Air New Zealand were the first to get on board, and they literally got the project off the ground. Then there’s ASB Bank, Telecom, Trade Me, Westpac, South Pacific Pictures, TBWA Whybin, NZ Post… and whole lot more. All of these pompanies have supported us by buying some of the Made From New Zealand T shirts we are selling to raise funds for the event. These are now available to the public, so if you want to be part of Waitangi Day in LA and want a piece of limited edition wearable art, make sure you buy a couple yourself.
